We wouldn't flex this hard if it wasn't so unlikely. We wouldn't brag if this wasn't done with incredibly limited resources from a community that was a cultural afterthought in a state that is a punchline. If the first time we went to Sundance in 2011 people hadn't literally laughed in our faces when we told them Miami had stories to tell, maybe we wouldn't have this chip on our shoulder.
But, we do.

There were 69 short films chosen to play Sundance out of over 13,500 submissions this year. We are so proud to have supported these four shorts screening this weekend (three of which are by first-time solo female filmmakers!):

This film was supported by our 1st Generation Filmmaker program in partnership with Time Warner OneFifty and the LaCroix #NoBroZone (no men involved at any step of the greenlighting process).

GREAT CHOICE

A woman gets stuck in a Red Lobster commercial.
Probably the most successful short of the year, it has already played at Toronto and dozens of other festivals while winning awards at Overlook and Palm Springs.

PLUR
dir: Julie Fliegenspan
A claymation adaptation of a series of actual voicemails received after making out with someone at a rave.
Julie started as a Borscht intern a few years ago, and we couldn't be prouder of her first film having its world premiere here. Supported by the #NoBroZone!

On her last day, Ruby faces the inescapable remnants of alcoholism, family, and culture.

In all seriousness, we are humbled by the amount of love, luck, and support it's taken to bring these films to life, not to mention the insane amount of work done by the filmmakers and their collaborators. We are truly grateful to have a chance to be heard and continue to make things in this weird city.
